Top 10 Energy Saving Tips for the Home
Easy ways to save energy around the home
1. Turn your thermostat down. By reducing your room temperature
by 1°C you can easily cut your heating bills by up to 10 percent.
2. Don't have your water too hot. Your cylinder thermostat shouldn't
be higher than 60°C/140°F.
3. Close your curtains at dusk. This stops heat escaping through
the windows.
4. Switch off the lights when you leave a room.
5. Never leave appliances on standby. Switch them off at the
wall.
6. Use the half-load or economy programmes. When not filling
up the washing machine, tumble dryer or dishwasher, this will
save energy.
7. Only boil as much water as you need. Make sure to cover the
element with an electric kettle.
8. Fix leaking taps. A dripping hot tap wastes energy and in
one week wastes enough hot water to fill half a bath.
9. Use energy saving light bulbs. They last 12 times longer than
ordinary lightbulbs and use much less energy.
10. Check your home for all the above and take action!.
